Artist’s Statement
For me, the creative process works best when I'm drawing or writing in a Moleskine journal. On those private little pages, I can let ideas flow, uncoaxed and unfettered. Later, I might transform those drawings and stories into larger, full-color pieces or complete children’s books.
I think creativity comes from all the thoughts and experiences that we have stored in our memory—some of them consciously and some subconsciously.
Wherever I go, whatever I do, I take note of those things that move me, or that give me pause. Those separate thoughts, feelings and experiences come together in different ways and at different times. If I can keep my mind open to everything I see and everything I’m thinking, creative ideas will gain substance and develop into expressive compositions and engaging stories.
